20 Years Of PlayStation

Sony’s PlayStation turns twenty years old. How is that possible?!

There have been a number of benchmark anniversaries in gaming this year with the current gen consoles, the XBox One and PS4, each turning one and the Sega Dreamcast turned fifteen, yet it’s hard to comprehend that Sony’s original market leader the original PlayStation has just turned in two decades following its debut into the Japanese market in 1994.

The grey console formed part of the fifth generation of consoles and became the first to sell over 100 Million units taking nine years to do so. It’s main competitors were the Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn. There’s a lot to be said for the build quality of the original PlayStation too! Mine is still hooked up to my television and still works perfectly, though the dual shock controllers are well worn at this point. Landmark games include Gran Tourismo and Tekken 2 amongst others.

To celebrate 20 years of PlayStation Sony have released a special edition PS4.

I’ve got a ps1 still wrapped in its box. Never been used. Do you reckon it’s worth something now?
