Hulk (2003)

Hulk originally started development way back in 1990. As usual in Hollywood there were many script rewrites, directors came and went. It wasn’t until 1997 that the film entered pre-production and work began.

Universal increasingly became worried over the films projected budget as it was spiralling out of control at $100 million. Universal were also concerned that the film was under the control of a first time director Jonathan Hensliegh and $20 million had already been spent by this point. Universal put the film onto hiatus and script rewrites were ordered to bring the budget down.

Ang Lee would join the project later in 2001 and two years later the full CG Hulk would smash his way onto our cinema screens. But what would we have seen if that 1998 version had gone into full production? What you can see in the video below is a full size animatronic Hulk that was built for the version of the film that never got made. In the video you’ll see the Hulk being worked on by effects artists, a transforming arm test and the complicated armature that sat inside the full size rubber Hulk body.
