A First Person Action Movie? This is Hardcore!

First person gaming has become astronomical in the world of entertainment. From Wolfenstein 3D to the many variants of Call Of Duty. But what if there was a movie filmed entirely this way?

Director Ilya Naishuller created the following music video for the ‘Biting Elbows’ entitled, ‘Bad Motherfucker’.

The music video was watched over 40,000,000 times on YouTube and one viewer was Timur Bekmambetov, the director of the ‘Night Watch ’ series and ‘Wanted’. He proposed a full length feature shot in this way.

At first Ilya turned down his offer until Timur asked, “Don’t you want to see a POV film in a cinema?” Ilya replied “Yes.” Timur responded with “Well then, think about it. If anyone can make this work, it’s you.”

Almost two years later and with a little help from an IndieGoGo campaign we have ‘Hardcore’.

Hardcore has already been released in Russia (Feburary 2015) and just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. No further release dates are known.

You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry and congratulations, you’re now a cyborg.

5 minutes later, your wife has been kidnapped and you should probably go get her back. Who’s got her? His name’s Akan (Danila Kozlovsky), he’s just a psychotic megalomaniac with telekinetic powers, and a never-ending army of mercenaries. You’re also in an unfamiliar city of Moscow, Russia and everyone wants you dead. Everyone, except for a mysterious British fellow called Jimmy (Sharlto Copley). He might be on your side. Good luck Henry. You’re very much likely to need it.
