There was a Ghost Rider movie, in fact there were two starring Nic Cage. This is not that as ABC plump for a newer incarnation of the flamey headed character.
Historically Ghost Rider has been a motorbike riding anti-hero with a flaming skull for a head named Johnny Blaze, but in May 2014, as part of their comics rejuvenation, the character was reinvented in ‘All-New Ghost Rider #1’.
Roberto ‘Robbie’ Reyes is a teenager who met with an untimely end only to be resurrected as ‘Ghost Rider’ by the Spirit of Eli Morrow. This version of the character does away with the two wheels choosing a black muscle car as his chosen mode of transport instead.
The duty of revealing of the car at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con fell to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D main man Clark Gregg who plays the fan favourite Agent Coulson. Meanwhile the part of Robbie Reyes has fallen to Gabriel Luna who may be familiar to fans of ‘True Detective’ in which he played Miguel Gilb.
The character will debut in season four of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D which premieres later in the year on September 20th. To build excitement ABC and Marvel released this, frankly underwhelming, teaser featuring the famous flaming skull.
