Goku and Frieza character shoes take centre stage for the launch of Adidas’ Dragon Ball Z inspired range of footwear.
It’s another month and another big brand shoe manufacturer has a pop-culture crossover for sale. This month it’s Adidas with their Dragon Ball Z range.
The anime’s lead protagonist, Goku, is the main inspiration for the first of two designs launching in August. The second is Goku’s nemesis, the villain Frieza.
Based on the Adidas ‘ZX500 RM’ silhouette, the ‘Son Goku’ design leans towards a more retro look and comes in the character’s distinct orange and blue colourway with frayed detailing.
The runner also features subtle embroidery and design work on the instep. The insole is branded with the Dragon Ball Z logo.
For ‘Frieza’, Adidas have chosen a more modern aesthetic with a modified ‘Yung-1’ design. Again featuring the character’s trademark colours of white and purple, these shoes are made up of leather, suede and corduroy. As with the Goku inspired shoes there are subtle design features, like the embroidered ‘F.’ on the mid-tongue and small dashes of pink.
Sneaker News reports that there will be two new additions to the range each month through to the end of the year, that’s eight designs in total. Each pair is rumoured to come packaged with an action figure of the character the design is inspired by as well.
