Alien: Covenant is in cinemas now but some of the tie-in promotions have been oddly conceived.
Watch Manchester United players watch Alien: Covenant at the cinema. Why? Because obviously, Man Utd, Aliens… duh! This is the conversation as imagined in my head at the P.R. meeting which conceived the idea of matching Premier League football players with science fiction cinema. It makes no fucking sense!
Yet the oddly matched publicity continues, this time with Rick & Morty. The disparity between Rick & Morty and Alien: Covenant is obvious though there is, at least, still a tenuous sci-fi link. But as should be the case, this endorsement from the animated characters for Ridley Scott’s latest foray into the Alien saga takes a slightly skewed approach.
Unlike any other sponsored content Rick & Morty manage to find the time to endorse excessive drink and drug misuse as a positive when fighting off Xenomorphs. Who knew?
Still, this is the kind of promotion of a film we can get behind. Watching footballers eating popcorn? I’d rather get hit with a facehugger (whilst high and drunk).
