The gang from Gotham are transported back to medieval Japan in this new full-length Japanese anime feature.
Okay, that headline says it all really as details are extremely thin on the ground at the moment.
But there must be something we can learn from these promotional materials, so let us start digging for clues.
Apparently, the big purple explosion in the trailer is a time portal but I’m not sure if this just effects Batman or a much wider area.
But it’s clear that Batman at least is transported back to the past. In this timeline, he finds versions of his allies such as Robin, Nightwing, Red Robin, Red Hood, and Catwoman who all look quite different. Although Alfred still looks the same which must be a good thing.
The majority of the trailers reveal the Joker to be the main villain, this is a Batman film after all, but there are also glimpses of other characters such as the Penguin, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy, in addition to Deathstroke and Gorilla Grodd.
If there is one aspect that impresses me most it’s the quality of animation which looks beautiful with its unique take on the Batman lore and the level of detail. It’s certainly miles ahead of the recently released Gotham By Gaslight trailer which left me sorely disappointed.
The only announcement made so far is that Batman Ninja will receive a theatrical release in Japan in 2018. I’m sure an announcement about a Bluray/digital streaming copy etc will come along shortly.
