Following months of speculation the truth is out. Ben Affleck will no longer play Batman in a forthcoming solo movie.
With a long wait ahead for the release of a new solo Batman film, fans can now turn their attention to the big question. Who will be the next Batman?
With ‘Batman Vs Superman‘ and ‘Justice League‘ already under his utility belt, Ben Affleck has officially hung up his cape, ending months of speculation. The actor hit the headlines towards the end of 2018 when paparazzi snapped Affleck being admitted into rehab for a third time accompanied by ex-wife, Jennifer Garner.
The incident was a further blow for the development of a standalone Batman film which Affleck was, at one point, set to direct and star in.
Since then director Matt Reeves has been linked with the film which is currently titled ‘The Batman’. Reeves’ CV includes directing ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ and executive producing ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’.
There’s good news and bad news regarding ‘The Batman’. The good news is that a date has been announced for the cinematic release of ‘The Batman’. The bad news is that it’s June 25th 2021. That’s a hell of a long time for fans to wait.
In a tremendously gracious gesture, Ben Affleck acknowledged the project via twitter stating that he’s “Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life”.
As DC and Warner Bros. reset on production for ‘The Batman’ is seems that the caped crusader’s next solo outing in the DCEU will feature a much younger protagonist. Recent iterations, including Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy starring Christian Bale have focussed on an older, more jaded main character.
In ‘The Batman’ we could get to witness a young, enthusiastic version of the character.
