Chloe Grace Moretz Stars In Alien Invasion Movie, The 5th Wave

Alien invasion movies are in plentiful supply and this teaser for The 5th Wave shares some common imagery and themes.

Often the preserve of straight-to-DVD B movies, the alien invasion genre has become something of a budget option for filmmakers. Movies like UFO and Skyline share common imagery similar to that of District 9 and any number of other films. A looming alien space craft hangs over the Earth in ominous fashion. Another movie trope seen many times is the separation of a family member or loved one and the subsequent chase across the country to ensure their safety. Sadly it looks like there’s another addition ready to add to the list of these unremarkable sci-fi films.

The 5th Wave stars ‘Hit Girl’ and ‘The Equalizer’ actor Chloe Grace Moretz. In this first trailer we see nothing of any real originality as the central character must go against her instincts and learn trust in a bid to rescue her younger brother from his abductors, The Others. And yes, a large space ship looms sinisterly in the sky. The premise behind the film is that the Earth’s inhabitants have been decimated by a number of calculated attacks by an alien invader. Darkness, Destruction, Infection and Invasion. Now the aliens initiate the next stage of their plan, The 5th Wave.

The film is based on a 2013 novel aimed at young adults written by  Rick Yancey. The 5th Wave will be released in cinemas in the UK and US on the 22nd January 2016.

Four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie teams up with a young man who may become her final hope – if she can only trust him.
