Comics Alliance has been an almost ever present source of news and journalism for comics fans since 2009, but as of now the site is officially on ‘hiatus’.
With a heartfelt tweet Comics Alliance Editor in Chief, Andrew Wheeler, announced the news:
I’m sorry to report that today is the last day for the current ComicsAlliance team. TownsquareMedia has elected to place the site on hiatus.
— Andrew Wheeler (@Wheeler) March 31, 2017
Wheeler proceeded to thank his staff and announce that he will be leaving the world of comics journalism behind to pursue a career in a different field.
Comics Alliance was originally created by AOL in 2009. The source of comic book news faced a similar fate in 2013 when AOL pulled the plug and closed Comics Alliance. A reprieve came in the form of Townsquare Media who bought ‘CA’ along with a number of music based AOL properties.
The news of Comics Alliance’s demise came with little time to react. Andrew Wheelers’ announcement was made on the site’s last day in operation and as of April 1st word is that the web address will redirect to another Townsquare property ‘Screencrush’.
Sad times for comic book fans and we wish the best of luck to the team and their future endeavours.
