Disney Shoots Down Star Wars: Attack Squadrons

Disney who now own LucasArts have cancelled yet another gaming project, this time it’s Star Wars: Attack Squadrons that has been axed…or is that lightsabre’d?

I first wrote about the game after its initial announcement back in December 2013, you can read that here.  The game was to be a multiplayer space combat simulation that ran within your internet browser window. The game even went as far as an open beta with select members of the public testing out the game.

Unfortunately the website for the game, www.starwarsattacksquadrons.com, now reads,

“We want to thank all of the fans who participated in the closed beta of Star Wars: Attack Squadrons. After much consideration, we have decided to cease development so that we can focus on other Star Wars game experiences. We truly appreciate the time you spent engaging in the beta.”

That’s all we know for now. There hasn’t been a decent Star Wars space multiplayer since X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter and that was back in 1997!

Luckily one beta tester recorded some in-game footage and here’s what were never going to play.
