The Geekend Review | taking a look back at the last week’s geek news.
The Geekend Review, “the cool form of uncool before uncool became a thing”. We take a look at some of the more exciting news stories to have dropped over the last week.
There’s plenty of superhero movie news this week from Batman Vs Superman, Gal Gadot confirms more than one Wonder Woman movie and the fantastic four origin story is to be re-written… or is it?
A rare Nintendo cartridge is about to make someone a whole lot richer and Macs turned thirty this week.
So. Many. Superhero. Movies!
Where to start with the superhero movie news from the last week? Firstly the scheduled release date for the Man Of Steel sequel currently known as Batman Vs Superman has been pushed back from 2015 to 2016. The official line is that things are progressing well but in order to produce the best possible movie some extra time will be needed.
Even further news to come out of the Batman V Superman camp is from Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress cast as Wonder Woman. Her appearance in the movie is reported to have earned her $300,000.00 with overall payments set to increase dramatically as her contract includes a further two feature film appearances. Presumably these will consist of a feature film as well as a Justice League team-up film.
With Batman Vs Superman moving from it’s original release date of July 2015 to almost a year later in May 2016, Marvel have taken the opportunity to fill the void by announcing that they will release Ant Man on that date instead.
Fans were up in arms earlier this week as plans were announced that writers behind Fox’s reboot of the franchise were to re-write the origin story for The Fantastic Four. Historically, and briefly, the team of four developed strange powers when their spaceship was bombarded with radiation. Reed Richards became super stretchy, Ben Grimm became stone clad powerhouse, The Thing, whilst Susan and Johnny Storm became The Invisible Woman and The Human Torch respectively. The rumours that the origin story would be altered along the lines of Reed and Ben developing their powers whilst at high-school and being used by the government as weapons before being joined by two others with abilities have been quashed by the film’s director Josh Trank.
Rare NES Nintendo World Championship Cart
About To Make Seller Much Richer
At the time of writing there are just over a couple of hours to go in an eBay auction that will land the highest bidder a super rare Nintendo World Championship games cartridge. The listing tells the story:
Nintendo World Championship Cart: Grey Version
This is your chance to own the Super RARE Nintendo World Championship Cart for the NES!!!! As you can see by the pictures, this is an authentic, true to life original cart; no reproduction cart here.
Obviously, you’ll immediately notice the ripped label. This is quite unfortunate but happened many decades ago by this point in time. No one knows the exact number of this cart (as each NWC cart was individually labeled upon production) as it appears in the upper left-hand corner of the cart label. This is known as the infamous “Mario” NWC cart that someone probably wrote on there long ago not having a clue what they actually had. Still, case in point, this is an authentic, original NWC cart from the championship back in the early 90s. The cart plays just fine and may some day be worth much more if someone decides to investigate a forensics lab’s involvement to see if they can determine the official number by running tests on the cart.
Right now the highest bid stands at $99,402.00. See the auction for youself here: www.ebay.com
