From Dean Devlin, the writer and producer of Independence Day comes a weather based disaster movie. Geostorm.
Gerard Butler (300) stars as Jake, a scientist who alongside his brother Max (Jim Sturgess, Cloud Atlas) is charged with fixing a malfunctioning satellite array built to protect the Earth from extreme weather. This line of defense becomes a global threat as the system begins attacking the planet creating a worldwide geostorm.
The film comes from Dean Devlin, famous for writing and producing Independence Day, another big budget, large scale film focussed on a world threatening event.
This second trailer for ‘Geostorm’ seems to suggest a similar formula with an unlikely hero, pulled from his family and placed into extreme danger as the only hope for saving the world against all the odds.
Formulaic it may be, but these huge blockbusters tend to be a lot of fun if you can forgive the over-the-top CGI, basic plot and less than oscar winning acting performances.
‘Geostorm’ batters its way into cinemas from the 20th of October in the U.K. and North America, other regions should check IMDB for release dates.
