Following much anticipation Gorillaz have finally announced their long overdue new album called ‘Humanz’.
Originally scheduled for release in 2016 the long overdue and highly anticipated new album from Gorillaz has finally been announced. ‘Humanz’ promises to be another genre-defying musical journey bursting with an impressive list of guest vocalists and collaborations.
Gorillaz is a virtual band created by ‘Blur’ vocalist Damon Albarn and ‘Tank Girl’ creator, comic book artist Jamie Hewlett.
The pair crafted four cartoon band members: 2.D. (Vocals), Noodle (Guitar), Russel Hobbs (Drums) and Murdoc Niccals (Bass) for the project that cast the animated bandmates into the limelight rather than the vocalist and assembled ‘IRL’ musicians. Their self-titled debut album dropped to critical and public acclaim in 2001.
‘Humanz’ will be Gorillaz fifth studio album and comes six years after their last release ‘The Fall’.
Famous for blurring the boundaries of musical genres ‘Humanz’ looks set to follow the same path with guest vocals and collaborations from such luminaries as Carly Simon, Grace Jones, Anthony Hamilton and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man to name a few.
The band have released four tracks from ‘Humanz’, each coming with a visual, the most impressive being ‘Saturn Barz (Spirit House)’ which has a full animated music video.
New track ‘We’ve Got The Power’ features Jennie Beth of the ‘Savages’, but also includes vocals from Noel Gallagher. Damon Albarn’s ‘Blur’ and Gallagher’s ‘Oasis’ divided ’90s Britpop fans with a bitter rivalry similar to that of the ‘Beatles’ and ‘The Rolling Stones’ in the ’60s and ’70s. The pair have since reconciled their differences to reportedly become close friends.
‘Ascension’ is an upbeat affair featuring vocals from rapper Vince Staples, one third of rap trio ‘Cutthroat Boyz’.
Finally comes the club track ‘Andromeda’ featuring American rapper/singer/songwriter D.R.A.M.
‘Humanz’ will be released on April 28th with a standard edition containing fourteen track or the deluxe edition giving an additional five tracks. Pre-order now via humanz.gorillaz.com
Gorillaz will also be performing the new album at a secret gig in London tonight (March 24th).
