Here’s The Logo For DC’s Shazam! – But Can This Film Save The DCEU?

Zachary Levi stars in Shazam! as the DC movie universe extends beyond Justice League characters.

As the Warner Bros and DC movie universe limps from one superhero disaster to the next, there may be hope on the horizon for a change in fortunes with ‘Shazam!’.

Although ‘Aquaman’, starring Jason Momoa, is the next release in the DCEU to hit cinemas later this year, ‘Shazam!’ will be the first film under the new leadership of producer Walter Hamada.

Hamada was brought in to help salvage the DC Extended Universe following the crushing disappointment at the box office of ‘Justice League’.

Former heads, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg move on in differing ways. Johns remains a key player as President of DC Entertainment whilst Berg exited the company entirely.

With DC’s only significant hit being ‘Wonder Woman’, fans are certainly hoping for better. It may just be that ‘Shazam!’ marks a notable change in direction for DC films. Could it be that DC are taking a leaf out of Marvel’s book and are ready to inject some fun into their movies?

The casting of Zachary Levi as the titular character suggests so. The actor is fondly remembered by geeks from the semi-popular show ‘Chuck!’ where he played the lead to comic effect.

Given the premise of ‘Shazam!’ is that of a boy called Billy Batson (played by Asher Angel) who is gifted the ability to become an adult superhero (Levi) – all the clues suggest a more light-hearted approach.

High resolution images of Levi in the iconic red costume have begun to appear online which show a traditional take on the “original Captain Marvel’s” costumer, and now we have the official movie logo.

In typical DC style the poster comes in dark contrasts with a red logo cleverly incorporating the lightning flash found on Shazam’s costume.

‘Shazam!’ has a U.K. and U.S. release date of April 5th 2019.
