Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Disney have announced a huge media event with the upcoming release of over twenty books to bridge the thirty two year gap between Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

If you remember back in April of 2014, Disney effectively pressed the big red reboot button and wiped away the huge Star Wars expanded universe of stories. Those stories are now considered an alternate reality if you will.

Now the reason for doing this has become clear. This new series of stories entitled “Journey to Star War: The Force Awakens” are considered official canon (part of the official Star Wars timeline). There will be adult and junior novels, stories for smaller children and not forgetting new comics from Marvel.

The new stories will help readers understand what has been happening in the Star Wars universe in the gap between the 1983 film Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and the upcoming Star Wars:The Force Awakens.

Disney have confirmed that these various stories in their different forms will contain Easter eggs that hint to the events in the forthcoming new Star Wars film directed by J.J. Abrams.

The first Marvel comic in this new series is called “Shattered Empire”. No other details have been released except for this rather nice cover piece by “Black Widow” artist Phil Noto.

You can check out more details by heading over to Entertainment Weekly and reading their exclusive report.
