Metroid: The Sky Calls | Short

Director Sam Balcomb channels 60s and 70s sci-fi for his Metroid universe short film which stars Nerdist News’ Jessica Chobot.

Jessica Chobot is more commonly found presenting a daily dose of pop-culture news over at nerdist.com, now we find her donning a power suit in Rainfall Film’s short film The Sky Calls which is inspired by and set in the Metroid video game universe.

The classic Nintendo franchise, Metroid, envisioned through the lens of 60s-70s science fiction cinema such as 2001, Alien, and Solaris: this was the concept for Rainfall’s most recent production. Instead of using a modern approach, a style was developed more in tune with the themes that inspired the first Metroid game in 1986: isolation, exploration, and the wonders of deep space.
