Tom Cruise stars in this all-action, big budget update of The Mummy resurrecting an ancient princess and a previously successful franchise?
Setting a far different tone to the successful 1999 series of films which starred Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis star in a new take on The Mummy.
Though the film bears the same name as the 1999 film this isn’t a remake of what was the start of a successful franchise at the time. Instead this new version will draw from Karl Freund’s 1932 original as much as other tellings of the tale.
This second trailer further emphasises that this updated telling of ‘The Mummy’ will be far more action led and less slapstick than what many recognise as the definitive Hollywood version to-date.
An ancient princess (Sofia Boutella) lies entombed through centuries of man’s ascension, all the while growing increasingly malevolent. Unwittingly set loose upon the world in the present day the princess seeks to unleash incomprehensible suffering and pain upon all of humankind.
The U.K. and U.S. will find The Mummy in cinemas from June 9th. Other regions should check IMDB for release dates.
