Otaku Gang | OG64 Mixtape & Video

Solar Slim & Richie Branson are the combined force known as Otaku Gang. Their mashup releases proved successful, now the pair combine original lyrics with music sampled from Nintendo 64 game themes on ‘OG64’.

Otaku Gang hit the internets hard with their debut release which paired up the unlikely alliance of Notorious B.I.G with Star Wars. The mashup mixtape titled ‘Life After Death Star‘ travelled far and wide around the web receiving a lot of hype and accolade. They continued their success with a second convergence of talents, this time combining Marshall Mathers aka Eminem with Street Fighter themes, that release was titled Marshall Vs Capcom.

Otaku Gang have been dropping comedy videos online too and it seems everything they release is well received. That all bodes well then for their latest musical creation, ‘OG64’.

Although ‘OG64’ is once again a merging of mediums of sorts, it differs from the mashup releases in as much as the lyrics and raps are original provided by Solar Slim and Richie Branson alongside featured artists Nick Pratt, Kada Loc, Don Slim and Martale. The music, as the title alludes to, contains samples from popular Nintendo 64 video game themes. Mario Bros, Goldeneye, Zelda, Star Fox and Perfect Dark all receive the treatment on this eight track mixtape.

Drawing on styles past and present ‘OG64’ is legitimate enough to appeal to a wide range of hip-hop fans who may not even realise the significance of the musical inspiration. To coincide with the release of the mixtape Otaku Gang have also dropped a video to accompany the opening track ‘OG Mario Bros’.

‘OG64’ is available to stream now via soundcloud and to download for free from otakugang.com.
