DC Entertainment and Marvel have dropped new posters at San Diego Comic-Con. We rate them.
This Comic-Con poster for Justice League is surprising in the fact that it’s more colourful than I would have expected. For the most part recent DC character films have been bleached out and lacking in vibrance. It’s a nice change.
As for composition, it’s a bit of a mess. Cyborg, the Flash, Wonder Woman and Aquaman are photoshopped around Batman in a a way that makes it look like they’re about to break out into a rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
I do like the use of the superhero logos in the tagline which alludes to the fact that Superman will feature in this film… in case you were in any doubt… or have been living in a remote wilderness trying to find your true purpose, stealing clothes off of washing lines and saving people on a drilling rig. I digress.
Clever use of the logos, lacking in imagination. 2/5
T’Challa stands proudly upon the head of a huge panther overlooking, what is presumably, Wakanda. Bold and empowering, the message is hammered home with the tagline, ‘Long Live The King’.
We’re super excited for Black Panther which is heading to cinemas early in 2018, but this poster – however nicely composed – doesn’t do a lot to amplify our anticipation.
Just a bit average – nice to look at, doesn’t raise our excitement levels. 3/5
This is more like it! Though I wasn’t a fan of the eighties, even in the eighties, the look of this poster for Thor: Ragnarok embodies the styling of the era with a fresh and modern aesthetic. I love the symmetry, bright colouring, and the painted portrayals of the main characters harks back to the days of those great Indiana Jones posters.
Such a contrast between this and the Black Panther poster.
