Soon It Will Be July 4th Again…

We won the battle of Independence Day. We appropriated their technology to our own. But the dying aliens sent out a distress signal and now twenty years later, the second wave has arrived to attack!

The summer of 1996 was dominated by the summer block buster film, ‘Independence Day’ (or ID4 as was its marketed abbreviation). You couldn’t watch the television or go to the cinema without seeing some commercial which always featured the iconic shot of the White House being obliterated by an alien laser.

Now twenty years later, a second wave of aliens are set to attack Earth again.

The original film is a fun piece of cinema let down by a silly plot device about a computer virus but don’t let that put you off. Unfortunatley Will Smith is not returning this time around but is instead replaced by his grown up son from the first film. Many other stars are returning including the always likeable Jeff Goldblum as well as Brent Spiner and Bill Pullman.

Title: Independence Day: Resurgence | Release Date US: 24th June | UK: 24th June

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

That’s right UnusedPizza, write off an entire film based on 2.5 minutes of footage! That’s the true internet spirit! 🙂

Hmmm, just watched this and feel a bit meh about it, I get the feeling the budget went on the large amounts of CGI and one large space battle. Will wait on another trailer to pass final judgement.
