The Space Between Us | First Trailer

Gardner Elliot was the first child born in space. He was raised on Mars but his heart is on Earth.

Starring Gary Oldman, Britt Robertson and Asa Butterfield and Gardner Elliot The Space Between Us is a whimsical tale of love between teenagers a world apart.

What seemingly starts off as another mission to Mars movie soon becomes a story about humanity and love that knows no bounds. Mankind embarks on a mission to colonise the Red Planet but things go horrifically wrong when one of the crew dies during childbirth. The child survives against all odds, the first to be born in space, and raised by scientists.

Keen to find his father and encouraged by his budding relationship with a girl he chats to online Gardner seeks to find a way to Earth. But at what cost?

The Space Between Us is scheduled for an August 19th release in the U.S. and U.K. A limited release is planned for other regions.

P.S. Just a crazy theory. Is the lead character’s name in The Space Between Us a nod to Steven Speilberg’s E.T? Elliott was the little boy who befriended the alien in the classic sci-fi movie about heading home. E.T. of course was a botanist… or Gardener… Gardner Elliot? It’s tenuous I’ll grant you. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

Mankind prepares for a new era as a space shuttle embarks on a landmark mission to colonize Mars. Tragedy strikes shortly after landing when an astronaut dies during childbirth. Sixteen years later, Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield), the first human born on the red planet, begins an online friendship with a girl in Colorado. When he finally gets the chance to visit Earth, Gardner experiences the joys and wonders of an alien world, while also trying to learn the mysterious identity of his father.
