The Happytime Murders | These Muppets Ain’t For The Kids

Melissa McCarthy teams up with a muppet cop to try and solve The Happytime Murders

I first wrote about The Happytime Murders back in 2012. All that existed back then was a brief synopsis and a selection of intriguing concept art revealing a muppet detective at a crime scene, strip club and other various locations talking to humans.

In the world of The Happytime Murders, puppets co-exist with humans but are treated as second-class citizens. Puppet private eye and disgraced ex-cop, Phil Phillips, is on the hunt for a murderer who took his brother’s life and the lives of the cast of The Happytime Gang, an eighties television show. Phil teams up with his ex-partner Detective Edwards (McCarthy) to try and solve the case.

Directed by Brian Henson, son of Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets, this is a comedy that is definitely not family friendly.

This trailer recently debuted at CinemaCon in Las Vegas (a convention where studios preview new films to the cinema industry and film journalists) and more recently the opening of Deadpool 2 in the US. I’ve been hearing a lot of positive reactions to the trailer and can’t wait to see it myself later this year.

Title: The Happytime Murders

Release | US: 17th August | UK: 24th August | World: IMDb
