The Latest Retro Console On The Block Is A Bit Different | SNK Neo Geo Mini

Because it’s all the rage now, SNK have jumped on the classic retro console bandwagon in a slightly different way with the Neo Geo Mini.

Where Nintendo and SEGA have produced mini versions of their classic video game consoles, to great effect for the former, SNK have decided to up the ante and introduce a miniature arcade cabinet called the ‘Neo Geo Mini’.

This classic Neo Geo will pack forty pre-loaded games into a pint-sized table top arcade unit. Games titles have yet to be revealed but there are some hardware specs to mull over.

Gameplay may be tricky with dimensions measuring in at a tiny 135mm wide, 108mm deep and 162mm high. The ‘mini’ weighs in at 600g. There’s a built in 3.5-inch screen, joystick and buttons. In addition you’ll find an HDMI output, to connect to a television, two ports to plug in controllers and a headphone jack.

There will be two region specific versions available. The Japan only version comes in red, white and black. The colourway matches that of the full sized Neo Geo MVS cabinet introduced in the ’90s. For the rest of the world units will come as a black, white and blue variant.

SNK’s motivation for releasing the ‘Neo Geo Mini’ is to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary. For more check out SNK on Facebook.
