The Predator | New Trailer Does Little To Inspire Confidence

A new official trailer for the reboot / sequel to the 1987 original ‘Predator’ doesn’t inspire confidence that we’re in for a return to form.

Like my fellow Unheard Nerd John, I’m a big advocate of ‘Predator’. Released in 1987 and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the film holds a special place in science fiction cinematic history.

As you’d expect from an Arnie movie from the ’80s, it has a healthy dose of cheese and dubious dialogue. As a premise the film is inspired and a genuinely fun sci-fi romp.

Whilst the franchise has faltered since, hopes are pinned on this year’s return of The Predator. Directed by Shane Black, who featured in the ’87 film himself, this latest addition to the canon is part sequel, part reboot.

‘The Predator’ finds the human race firmly in the firing line when a young boy unwittingly triggers the return of the universe’s most deadly hunter. The twist? This time they’ve become enhanced from the DNA of another species.

The film’s synopsis leaves a lot to be desired and this latest trailer doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence in a franchise that has consistently missed the mark for thirty years. For such an iconic creation to languish so badly is a real shame.

The Predator is in cinemas in North America and the U.K from September 14th.

About ‘The Predator’ | From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
