Puma’s latest pop-culture collaboration sat quietly on show at MCM Comic-Con in London this weekend.
If you’re at MCM Comic-Con in London this weekend there’s a good chance you’ll find your way to the Hasbro stand. You’ll most likely be drawn in by the seven foot tall ‘Bumblebee’ that’s stalking around the convention floor in promotion of the latest movie from the Transformers franchise.
You’ll probably notice the Transformers toys. You might be drawn towards the Star Wars toys or take the time for a photo opportunity with the Infinity Gauntlet and Tesseract from the Marvel line.
What you might not expect to find amidst the, understandably, toy-centric stand are two pairs of trainers. Alas, there they are, proudly displayed in two glass covered plinths and this sneakerhead sniffed them out from a mile away.
It’s not as random as it might appear. The shoes are the latest pop-culture collaboration for German sports brand Puma.
We’ve already seen a Sonic the Hedgehog X Puma collaboration this year, and it’s just one of a wide range of team-ups with various other iconic brands.
This latest pairing of footwear and pop-culture brings us Transformers X Puma. As with their other recent crossovers the collaboration sees Puma using their recently reissued RS silhouette as a starting point.
The Transformers pack comes in two colourways. The first comes in yellow and grey with red detailing and echoes the look of ‘Bumblebee’, the yellow VW Beetle that takes the lead in the latest Transformers movie. The second presents a more subtle red, white and blue palette which represents ‘Optimus Prime’. Both shoes are adorned with a silver Autobots logo on the heel and embroidered on the tongue.
There’s no price point at the time of writing, but the pack is due for release exclusively in Europe from November 22nd with a release date to follow for the U.S. in December.
Check out our next episode of the ‘Jump the Shark’ podcast (Episode 8) for an interview from the con floor with a Hasbro representative where we talk about the Transformers X Puma pack.
