UKFilmNerd’s Shorts | Enter The Freeman

Here at The Unheard Nerd we welcome all kinds of media and will gladly share our findings from the net with you the reader. As your probably already aware, I love film and in a semi regular feature I will share with you some of the excellent short films hiding away on the internet.

Half-Life was an amazing first person shooter that blew everyone away when it first appeared in 1994. The video game had you play Gordon Freeman, a scientist who is a part of an experiment that accidentally links another dimension to Earth.

This allowed for strange creatures to cross over and reek havok in the secret scientific base. Armed initially with only a crowbar, you had to escape from the facility and try to evade the special ops soldiers who have been sent in to destroy everyone and everything to contain the situation.

Half-Life 2 followed in 2004 to the same reaction once again as the project had been kept successfully under wraps until its surprise announcement. This was followed up with two follow on episodes, the last of which was released in 2007.

Since then the fans have all been patiently waiting for Half-Life 3

In 2012, a group of dedicated fans, known as Chariotdrive, created this short Half-Life fan film for only $3000 which you can watch below.

Fast forward to 2014 and Chariotdrive launched a Kickstarter drive to raise $12,000 for a further two episodes to create The Freeman Chronicles. The fans responded by pledging more than double that amount!

Chariotdrive work on the films in their spare time and believe in quality rather than rushing out an inferior product. They are still hard at work on those two extra episodes as we speak and hopefully they should see the light of day this year.

You can find out more at the official web site, The Freeman Chronicles as well as Chariotdrive’s Facebook page.

Thanks to Live For Films for the story.
