Shoe tie-ins with popular culture are becoming a regular occurrence. Sometimes they’re rad, sometimes they’re these Dr Martens.
I think we can all agree that the recent Vans X Nintendo crossover was a success. A beloved piece of retro gaming history incorporated into a classic range of shoes and accessories. I bought a pair of Hi-Tops!
Dr Martens are jumping on the bandwagon with a range of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed boots. Yes… boots. And they’re fugly as hell.
The designs naturally pay tribute to the famous four ‘heroes in a half shell’ with laces coloured to match each of the Turtle’s eye masks and lurid green designs.
For me, the only shred of integrity these abominations have is that they are inspired by the original series created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984 rather than the current Michael Bay produced movie franchise. That’s it. The adult range are literally big versions of kids shoes, and while this must appeal to some demographic somewhere, I struggle to see how they will appeal to anyone old enough to have to worry about paying for their own pizza.
That said, you’ll be in need of some disposable income to afford a pair which each design costing a hefty £125! Infants sizes sting the wallet at £60 with Junior sizes a tenner more.
You can browse the range at drmartens.com/uk/tmnt if your curiosity is piqued. You can purchase online too if you’ve taken leave of your senses or you just have money to burn.
