Long thought extinct, a Jurassic shark is set to terrorise the seas! Can Jason Statham save us?
In 1997, author Steve Alten released the novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. The story revolves around a deep sea diver by the name of Jonas Taylor. He discovers that a Megalodon, a species of shark from the Jurassic period, has survived the deep trenches at the bottom of the ocean.
As Jonas was the only survivor of an exploration party to discover this Megalodon, no one believes his story that such a species has survived. The shark manages to make its way to the surface waters and the violent terror soon begins.
Alten has written several books in this series and I’ve read the first three and can recommend them as entertaining blockbuster material.
New Line Cinema snapped up the film rights pretty much as soon as the first novel was released in 1997 but it has been stuck in development hell ever since.
Finally, in 2018, we have our first look at the new film starring Jason Statham who is playing Jonas. In a slight change from the book, an underwater research station is attacked by Meg and Statham is recruited to come and rescue them.
