Powers is an original series for the Playstation network which debuts today, but you can watch episode one right now, for free.
Adapted from the comic book written by Brian Michael Bendis (Kick-Ass, The Kingsmen) and illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming, Powers is the latest super-hero TV series to hit our screens, but not all screens. Powers will be aired exclusively on the Playstation Network.
The plot revolves around a lead character Detective Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley). Once gifted with powers himself Walker’s abilities were taken away by his nemesis Wolfe (Eddie Izzard). Now teamed up with his no-nonsense partner Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward) his role is to police the Powers – superheroes and villains – that populate the Earth. The plot thickens when someone begins killing off the Powers.
A long time in the making and with a switch being made from the FX channel along the way to becoming Sony’s first original scripted series for the Playstation Network the series started life on the pages of Bendis’ comic book at Image comics back in 2000. Fans of his work will note that other stories from the veteran writer to make it onto screen includes Kick-Ass, a less than kid friendly comic tale. Powers is no different being aimed firmly at a mature market with choice language and violence.
Whilst the first two episodes should be available today, the remainder of the ten episode first season should be released weekly from here on in though, as a teaser, the first episode is available in its entirety for you to watch now.
Set in a world where humans and super heroes co-exist, a homicide detective, who had his own powers taken from him, investigates crimes involving superhumans along with his partner.
