The X-Men return in a fresh take on a plot last seen in X-Men 3: The Last Stand
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is a film that has been a long time coming. Originally filmed in 2017 and set for release in March of this year, the film required some additional reshoots after test screenings.
However, not everyone was available to return at the same time, so 20th Century Fox rescheduled the film’s release for February of 2019.
Director Simon Kinburg, who has been involved in all the X-Men films since X-Men 3, wanted to bring a more faithful adaptation of the comic’s The Dark Pheonix Saga to the big screen. The version that was brought to the screen in X-Men 3: The Last Stand was not well received by the fans.
Luckily for him, the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past had erased the timeline including the events of X-Men 3, allowing Kinburg to tackle the Dark Phoenix story once again.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set ten years after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse. The team are now taking on more risky missions and when performing a rescue mission in space, they are hit by a solar flare.
Jean Grey’s powers become infinitely more powerful but she also becomes dangerously unstable as well.
